REPORT FOR WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2006 >>>> OPENING 61 Optimists and 3 guests attended the breakfast meeting. Guests: Ron Chambers was introduced by George Paton; Lewis Jones was introduced by Nancy Boston, and Scott Erba was introduced by Art Gakstatter. Door Greeters: Andy Swihart and Ken Anderson welcomed all. Prayer was offered by Marv Miller, who prayed for our troops and thanked God for our community. Pledge was given to the Flag of the United States of America. Promise yourself was said in unison using the Optimist Creed. Birthday Honorees included: Harry Gigous & Gary Tanner. Song Leader Martin Becker had the honorees control most of the signing. >>>> INFORMATION Prayer List: Bill Hilliard, Janet Kirkpatrick, Past President Jack Jarecki. Membership Committee: Bill Lawrence gave the 2nd reading of Claudia Fussle’s application. She is with the Swiss Guesthouse, a B & B along with a tree farm. Safe Assured ID: It was agreed by all that we need to make this a club project, as opposed to a project for just a couple of people. Future sign-ups are Saturday, October 28th at Mentone Elementary from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. along with Warsaw Christian School Tuesday, October 31st from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Wednesday, November 1st from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Childhood cancer: Next week, 11-1, we are encouraged to bring board games, card games and books for kids. Art Gakstatter reported that Spooktakular will be 10-27 at 5p.m. downtown. Volunteers are needed to help keep the about 1000 kids that are expected safe. Salvation Army canned food drive: Denny Andrews reported that we can put the cans in the bed of his truck on the way into the next 3 meetings. Jr. Achievement Bowl-a-thon Jeff Owens is looking for 2 other bowlers to bowl with Joe Sutton & himself. John Elliott reported that only $143k of the $2 million needed for the Baker Youth Club building is needed. Scott Erba reported that 35 kids ran in the Young Tigers Cross Country Meet. There might be some local competitions, camps & clinics to create a culture of running in our elementary and middle school kids. Program committee reported that future programs include: November 1st Islam, November 8th Emergency Medical Services November 15th Head Start Martin Becker reported the premier of the band & choral work "Dedication" that was commissioned in memory of Phil Eherenman will be at 7 p.m. on Nov 17 at the Warsaw High School Performing Arts Auditorium. Sergeant-at-Arms Merl Heckaman & Mark Skibowski entertained the club as they released many coins and bills into the coffers. Dayne Nix – Navy >>>> PROGRAM Lewis Jones, executive director of Combined Community Services reported that CCS helps people get back on their feet with several programs: Emergency Assistance, Project Independence, Individual Development Accounts.
