Christmas Tree Sales Each year the club sells fresh, live Christmas trees from Thanks giving to Christmas on a lot near Owens Market on Center Street. All club members participate in this project, and all funds raised, several thousand dollars, go to support youth projects through out the year. Christmas Bell Ringers Each year during the Christmas Season, club members work as bell ringers for the Salvation Army. All funds raised go to support the various Salvation Army ministries. Cub Scout Cake Sale The Wednesday before Thanksgiving, members of local Cub Scout troops bring fresh baked goods to a WBO breakfast meeting. The baked goods are auctioned and all of the money raised is provided to the scout troops for their use. Hoops For Hope In December each year in cooperation with Grace College, Holiday Inn Express, and Kosciusko County Cancer Fund, The WBO club sponsors the Optimist Basketball Tourney. Four College basketball teams compete in the tourney and the proceeds from ticket sales go to support the Cancer fund. Triathlon This is the premier fund raising event each year and the entire optimist club membership participates. The event is held in memory of the founder and first race director, Phil Eherenman. The event is part of the USAT triathlon and winners can move on to regional and national competition. The event is limited to 550 athletes and is held in late June each year in the Village of Winona Lake. All funds raised support the club’s youth activities. White Elephant Auction This auction is held following the Christmas Season at a WBO breakfast meeting. Members bring white elephant gifts to be auctioned off by our official auctioneer, Merl Heckaman. All funds raised support the club’s youth activities. |
